What this trial studies

This is a single-center, prospective observational study conducted at Peking Union Medical College Hospital that gave secukinumab to adults with Hurley stage II or III hidradenitis suppurativa. Participants had disease for at least six months with at least one draining tunnel or two inflammatory nodules and had inadequate responses to prior treatments. Patients were followed for efficacy and safety outcomes, with clinical assessments and ultrasound used to document lesion changes. The study ran from June 1, 2025, to June 1, 2026, under institutional ethics approval and informed consent procedures.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older with moderate-to-severe HS (Hurley II–III), disease duration ≥6 months with at least one draining tunnel or two inflammatory nodules, and prior inadequate response to antibiotics, isotretinoin, or TNF inhibitors are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients with mild HS, active infections, recent use of other biologics or systemic immunosuppressants, severe organ dysfunction, or other conditions affecting results are unlikely to benefit or be eligible.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, secukinumab could reduce inflammatory lesions and improve quality of life for patients with moderate-to-severe HS who have not responded to other therapies.

How similar studies have performed: Other clinical studies of secukinumab in HS have been performed and have shown benefit in some patient subsets, though results across studies have been mixed.
