What this trial studies
Sixty overweight women (BMI 25–29.9 kg/m²) will be randomized 1:1 to a daily 5 g sea buckthorn aqueous infusion taken each morning for 12 weeks or to continue usual habits without supplementation. The infusion is prepared fresh each day by dispersing 5 g sea buckthorn powder in 250 mL lukewarm boiled water and consumed after breakfast. Body composition (weight, BMI, waist‑hip ratio, visceral fat) will be measured at baseline and follow-up using an InBody 270 bioelectrical impedance analyzer. Data will be analyzed using standard statistical methods (ANOVA) to compare changes between groups.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Women aged 18–50 with BMI 25–29.9 kg/m² who are not pregnant or lactating, do not have chronic metabolic or gastrointestinal disease, are not using weight‑loss drugs or supplements, and do not smoke or drink alcohol are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People outside the enrolled profile—men, those with BMI below 25 or ≥30, pregnant or breastfeeding women, those with chronic metabolic/GI conditions, high physical activity (>1.4), or on weight‑loss medications—are unlikely to benefit from this protocol.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If effective, the infusion could offer a simple, low‑cost dietary option to modestly improve weight and body composition in overweight women.
How similar studies have performed: Some preclinical and small human studies suggest sea buckthorn has antioxidant and lipid‑modulating effects, but rigorous randomized trials showing clear body composition benefits are limited.
