Screening individuals at risk for malignant hyperthermia
Molecular Genetics Study on Screening of Malignant Hyperthermia Susceptible Individuals
This study is trying to find out more about the genes that might cause malignant hyperthermia by collecting samples from patients who have had this reaction during surgery and their family members.

What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on patients who experienced malignant hyperthermia during or after surgery under general anesthesia. It aims to collect genetic specimens from these patients and their family members to analyze mutations related to malignant hyperthermia. The study anticipates enrolling approximately 50 participants nationwide, with 1-5 patients from Peking University Third Hospital. The goal is to better understand the genetic factors contributing to this rare condition.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients who developed malignant hyperthermia during or after surgery under general anesthesia.
Not a fit: Patients who have been ruled out for malignant hyperthermia through subsequent treatment and diagnosis will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding of malignant hyperthermia and lead to improved screening and management strategies for at-risk individuals.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on malignant hyperthermia, this specific genetic screening approach is relatively novel.
