Screening for high and low risk pregnancy hyperglycemia in the first trimester
Screening For First Trimester's Hyperglycemia in High and Low Risk Pregnancy
This study is testing if screening for high and low blood sugar levels in pregnant women during their first trimester can help identify those at risk for gestational diabetes and allow for early interventions.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to screen for hyperglycemia in pregnant women during their first trimester, focusing on both high-risk and low-risk groups. It recognizes that glucose intolerance is a common complication in pregnancy, which can lead to serious maternal and neonatal outcomes. By identifying women at higher risk for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) early, the study seeks to implement interventions such as diet and exercise sooner, potentially reducing the incidence of GDM and its associated complications. The study will involve blood sugar testing to assess glucose levels in participants.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include pregnant women with a history of gestational diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, or other risk factors for GDM, as well as a comparable group of low-risk women.
Not a fit: Patients who do not meet the inclusion criteria, such as those without any risk factors for gestational diabetes, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier interventions for women at risk of gestational diabetes, improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in early screening for gestational diabetes, indicating that this approach is promising and not entirely novel.
