Screening for asymptomatic Mpox in high-risk individuals
Looking for Asymptomatic Mpox in a Population at High Risk
Unity Health Toronto · NCT06353737

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify asymptomatic cases of Mpox among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) participating in a randomized controlled trial. Participants will be screened for Mpox symptoms through questionnaires regarding their health history, sexual practices, and vaccination status. Additionally, swabs and blood samples will be collected to test for the presence of the Mpox virus. The study seeks to enhance understanding of the prevalence of asymptomatic Mpox infections in this high-risk population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men who are already enrolled in a related randomized clinical trial.
Not a fit: Patients who do not belong to the GBMSM community or those not enrolled in the specified randomized clinical trial may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved detection and management of Mpox infections, particularly in asymptomatic individuals.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited information on similar studies specifically targeting asymptomatic Mpox, the approach of screening high-risk populations has shown promise in other infectious disease contexts.
