What this trial studies

This study aims to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of an intensive school readiness program designed for preschool-aged children with unilateral cerebral palsy (UCP). Participants will undergo two pre-intervention assessments, engage in the Smart Start program, and complete a post-intervention assessment to measure the program's impact on their readiness for school. The study seeks to understand how well the program can be implemented and its effectiveness in preparing children for school.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are preschool-aged children between 3 to 5 years 11 months with unilateral cerebral palsy who can visually attend to objects and show interest in them.

Not a fit: Patients with uncontrolled epilepsy, significant visual impairment, severe behavioral problems, or those unable to complete the assessment protocol may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly enhance school readiness and developmental outcomes for children with unilateral cerebral palsy.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on similar programs specifically for unilateral cerebral palsy, interventions aimed at improving school readiness in children with disabilities have shown promise in other studies.
