What this trial studies

This is a randomized community trial delivering a multidimensional intervention across primary schools in Campeche, Mexico City, and Morelos targeting 4th-grade students (ages 9–12). The project includes a situational diagnosis, design and development of interventions, implementation, and evaluation phases carried out over multiple years. Interventions focus on healthy and sustainable eating, movement behaviors, and psychosocial determinants while measuring anthropometric, biological, psychological, behavioral, and environmental outcomes. Impact will be compared between intervention and control schools to see if changes in the school and surrounding environments translate to improved nutritional status and behaviors.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are 9–12 year-old children in 4th grade who attend participating primary schools in Campeche, Mexico City, or Morelos during the morning or extended shifts (with specific school size requirements for Morelos).

Not a fit: Children who are not in 4th grade, who do not attend the selected schools or shifts, or who cannot participate in on-site school activities are unlikely to derive direct benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, students could adopt healthier eating and activity habits, show improved weight-related measures, and experience safer, more supportive school environments that reduce obesity risk.

How similar studies have performed: Previous school-based, multidimensional interventions have produced mixed but often modest positive effects on children's weight and health behaviors, so this approach has some supporting evidence.
