What this trial studies

Adults diagnosed with allergic asthma between ages 20 and 44 will receive conventional physical therapy, and a group will receive the scalene hold-relax technique in addition to those exercises. Pulmonary function tests will be performed before and after the intervention period to measure changes in lung function. Participants with major medical or psychological comorbidities are excluded to limit confounding factors. The intervention focuses on manual/therapeutic techniques targeting the scalene muscles as adjunctive therapy to breathing and physical therapy exercises.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 20–44 with a diagnosis of allergic asthma who can provide consent and participate in physical therapy sessions without major comorbidities.

Not a fit: Patients with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, other chronic illnesses, significant psychological conditions, or those outside the 20–44 age range are unlikely to benefit or are excluded from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If effective, adding the scalene hold-relax technique could improve breathing and pulmonary function and reduce asthma symptoms for participating adults.

How similar studies have performed: Manual techniques targeting accessory respiratory muscles have shown mixed and limited benefits in asthma, and the specific scalene hold-relax approach remains relatively untested in this population.
