What this trial studies
The RISE program is an evidence-based wellbeing intervention for nurses and nurse leaders that is usually delivered in 8–9 weekly 90-minute sessions led by a licensed mental health professional. In this pilot the same RISE content (Resilience, Insight, Self-Compassion, Empowerment) will be condensed into a 2.5-day in-person retreat and offered to AdventHealth nurse managers. The study will measure feasibility and acceptability of the retreat format and collect occupational and psychological well-being indicators including burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and perceived stress. Eligible participants must be employed AdventHealth nurse managers with moderate or high burnout on the MBI and those in excluded roles or with low burnout will not be enrolled.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Employed AdventHealth nurse managers who score in the moderate or high range for burnout on the Maslach Burnout Inventory are the ideal participants.
Not a fit: Individuals who are not nurse managers (for example direct care RNs, nurse directors, educators, or executives) or those with low burnout scores on the MBI are unlikely to be eligible or benefit from this pilot.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the retreat could provide a quicker, practical way to reduce burnout and stress and boost resilience and self-compassion among nurse managers.
How similar studies have performed: The RISE program has shown benefits when delivered in weekly sessions to nurses and leaders, but delivering it as a condensed retreat is a novel approach that has not been widely tested.
