What this trial studies
This study investigates the effects of resistance training on health-related blood biomarkers in patients with choroidal melanoma undergoing treatment with episcleral brachytherapy. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a control group receiving standard care or an intervention group performing daily resistance training sessions during their hospitalization. The training will utilize elastic resistance bands and will be supervised by a trained physician. Additionally, the study will assess changes in physical function, quality of life, and levels of anxiety and depression.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults diagnosed with choroidal melanoma who are receiving plaque brachytherapy at the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe.
Not a fit: Patients with health conditions that prevent high-intensity resistance training, unstable cardiac illnesses, serious metabolic disorders, or significant orthopedic issues may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the physical and mental well-being of patients undergoing treatment for ocular melanoma.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on resistance training specifically for ocular melanoma patients, similar approaches in other cancer treatments have shown positive outcomes.
