What this trial studies

This observational study aims to identify specific genes and mutations associated with extreme longevity, particularly in individuals aged 95 and older. The research focuses on understanding how these genetic factors contribute to healthier aging and the prevention of age-related diseases. By studying Ashkenazi Jewish populations, the project seeks to uncover biological functions of longevity-related genes and explore potential therapies that could mimic these genetic advantages in others. The study involves participants living in private homes and a senior living facility in New York.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Ashkenazi Jews aged 95 and older, as well as their offspring.

Not a fit: Patients who are not of Ashkenazi descent or who do not meet the age criteria may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to therapies that enhance healthy aging and longevity for individuals lacking the genetic profile for extreme longevity.

How similar studies have performed: While studies on genetics and aging have been conducted, this specific approach focusing on Ashkenazi populations and extreme longevity is relatively novel.
