What this trial studies
This research initiative aims to create a comprehensive database and biorepository for individuals who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom, as well as civilian contractors involved in these operations. The study will collect clinical and exposure data, alongside blood samples, to better understand deployment-related lung diseases such as bronchiolitis. Participants will provide informed consent, and their clinical data will be gathered as part of routine care, ensuring no additional procedures are required. The collected information will help characterize each case and contribute to future research on lung diseases in this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals who served in the southwest Asia wars or civilian contractors who worked in those regions.
Not a fit: Patients who did not serve in the southwest Asia wars will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of lung diseases in veterans and contractors exposed to deployment-related factors.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is focused on a specific population, similar studies have shown success in understanding deployment-related health issues, indicating potential for valuable insights.
