What this trial studies

This observational study focuses on the laparoscopic and robotic extraperitoneal mesh repair of parastomal hernias. It utilizes the transversus abdominis release (TAR) technique combined with endoscopic trans-abdominal preperitoneal plasty (TAPP) to reinforce the repair with mesh according to the Sugarbaker principle. The study also addresses the repair of concomitant midline hernias using the enhanced-view Rives-Stoppa technique. The approach aims to improve surgical outcomes for patients with parastomal hernias.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults with a diagnosed parastomal hernia requiring surgical repair.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved surgical outcomes and reduced recurrence rates for patients with parastomal hernias.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with similar laparoscopic and robotic approaches to hernia repair, indicating potential for success in this study.
