What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of the AeviceMD Monitoring System in managing asthma by reducing acute exacerbations and improving patient outcomes. It employs a randomized controlled trial design, recruiting 180 patients aged 7 and above, alongside 120 clinicians, over a follow-up period of three months. The study assesses various factors including symptom control, quality of life, self-efficacy, and the usability of the device from both patient and clinician perspectives. The aim is to determine if remote monitoring can enhance disease management and decrease the frequency of asthma attacks.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include pediatric patients aged 7 to 17 and adults aged 18 and above who have a diagnosis of asthma and are experiencing an exacerbation.
Not a fit: Patients with concurrent chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or those unable to provide consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve asthma management and reduce the frequency of exacerbations for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using remote monitoring for chronic respiratory diseases, suggesting potential success for this approach.
