What this trial studies

This study evaluates a novel, fully remote counseling and sound therapy program designed to manage hyperacusis, a condition where sounds are perceived as excessively loud or painful. Participants will first undergo four weeks of remote counseling using instructional videos and interactive activities, followed by a randomized trial comparing two sound therapy approaches. The study aims to assess the effectiveness of these interventions in reducing hyperacusis symptoms. All materials will be delivered through a secure online platform to ensure accessibility for participants.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with hyperacusis who have access to a smartphone or computer.

Not a fit: Patients with severe tinnitus or profound hearing loss may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could provide an effective, accessible treatment option for individuals suffering from hyperacusis.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research on fully remote approaches for hyperacusis, previous studies have shown promise in counseling and sound therapy for similar conditions.
