What this trial studies

This observational study aims to collect and analyze data on patients with COVID-19, specifically focusing on those who experience acute kidney injury (AKI). By utilizing a matched case-control design, the study seeks to understand the clinical course of COVID-19 and its impact on kidney health, as well as the associated mortality and costs. The research will involve retrospective data collection from patients who have virology and pathological evidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection. The findings will help establish future treatment approaches for COVID-19-related kidney complications.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection who are experiencing acute kidney injury.

Not a fit: Patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome or acute kidney injury without evidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of kidney complications in COVID-19 patients.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have indicated significant health impacts of COVID-19 on kidney function, suggesting that this approach may yield valuable insights.
