What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to assess the effectiveness of a bundle of interventions designed to reduce the transmission of Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) from hospitalized patients to their households and communities. The study will involve a cluster randomized controlled trial where districts in two provinces will be assigned to either an intervention or control group. Interventions include education on hygiene practices, communication strategies, and reducing antibiotic use, developed in collaboration with local health authorities. The impact of these interventions will be evaluated through screening for CRE in household members, livestock, and the environment, alongside surveys to assess knowledge and practices related to health and hygiene.

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients under 2 years old who are discharged from the selected hospital.

Not a fit: Patients not from the selected hospital or those outside the selected province may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly reduce the transmission of antibiotic-resistant infections, improving public health outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar interventions aimed at reducing antibiotic resistance transmission, indicating a promising approach.
