What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of watching videos and blowing paper pinwheels in reducing pain and fear in children aged 3-6 years undergoing venipuncture for the first time. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: one watching their preferred cartoons on an iPad, another blowing paper pinwheels, and a control group receiving standard care. The study aims to determine if these interventions can significantly alleviate the distress associated with venipuncture. Family members will be present to provide comfort and support during the procedure.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are hospitalized children aged 3-6 years who are undergoing venipuncture for the first time.
Not a fit: Patients with chronic diseases, developmental delays, or those who have difficulty speaking or have used sedatives within the past 6 hours may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a non-invasive method to help young children cope with pain and fear during medical procedures.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown that distraction techniques can effectively reduce pain and anxiety in pediatric patients during medical procedures.
