What this trial studies

This project aims to address unhealthy drinking habits among socially disadvantaged Black men by implementing a Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) intervention in barbershop settings. The study will evaluate the effectiveness of this approach in reducing both the average number of drinking days and the frequency of unhealthy drinking days. By leveraging barbershops as community hubs, the research seeks to extend evidence-based care to populations at high risk for alcohol-related health issues. The findings will contribute to understanding how to better implement care models in non-clinical environments.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Black men aged 18 or older who are low-income.

Not a fit: Patients who do not identify as Black or who do not meet the low-income criteria may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce alcohol-related health risks among Black men, leading to improved overall health outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar community-based interventions targeting alcohol consumption, indicating potential for positive outcomes in this approach.
