What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to implement a school-based asthma management program for children aged 5-12 in low-income communities in Colorado. The study evaluates two strategies: a standard approach and an enhanced community-centered approach, both designed to improve asthma control and reduce school absenteeism. By addressing social determinants of health, the program seeks to provide sustainable asthma care through school asthma navigators and nurses. The trial will measure key outcomes identified by stakeholders to assess the effectiveness of these interventions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 5-12 years with poor asthma control attending participating schools in rural Colorado.
Not a fit: Patients who are younger than 5 years or older than 12 years, or those with controlled asthma, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce asthma attacks and improve the quality of life for disadvantaged children with asthma.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with school-based asthma management programs, indicating a promising approach for addressing asthma disparities.
