What this trial studies

This study focuses on reconstructing fingertip amputations by utilizing a combination of composite bone and nail bed grafts along with cutaneous flaps. The approach aims to address the challenges associated with various types of fingertip injuries, particularly those involving nail bed defects. By exploring this innovative reconstruction method, the study seeks to improve both functional and cosmetic outcomes for patients with fingertip amputations. The study will include patients with preserved amputated parts and will exclude those with certain medical conditions or age restrictions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with fingertip amputations through the nail bed and distal phalanx who have preserved the amputated part.

Not a fit: Patients with crushed amputated segments, peripheral vascular disease, diabetes, or those outside the age range of 5 to 65 years may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance the recovery and quality of life for patients suffering from fingertip amputations.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited consensus on the ideal reconstruction methods for fingertip injuries, this study explores a novel approach that has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
