What this trial studies

This is a parallel-group, randomized, single-masked trial with pre-test and post-test measurements comparing reverse case-study sessions based on a heutagogical approach to usual instruction among final-year nursing students. The intervention uses reverse case studies to promote self-directed problem solving, communication, adaptability, and other soft skills tied to professional readiness. Primary outcomes include measures of professional readiness, career adaptability, and professional socialization, with psychological capital as a secondary outcome. The trial is conducted at Hacettepe University in Ankara with eligibility limited to final-year students enrolled in the 'Education in Nursing' course and excludes students working full-time or graduates of vocational health high schools.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are final-year nursing students enrolled in the 'Education in Nursing' course at Hacettepe University who are willing to attend the intervention and not employed full-time in health services.

Not a fit: Students already working full-time in health services, those who have graduated from vocational health high schools, or students who are not in their final year are unlikely to benefit from this specific intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could improve new nurses' readiness for practice and ease the transition into clinical work, potentially reducing early-career stress and turnover.

How similar studies have performed: Related self-directed and case-based educational methods have shown promise in nursing education, but reverse case studies guided by heutagogy are a relatively novel approach with limited prior randomized evidence.
