Real-time access to the mental content of sleepwalkers

Toward a Real-time Access to Sleepers' Mental Content

NA · Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris · NCT05452733

What this trial studies

This study aims to explore cognitive processes occurring during non-REM sleep by using auditory stimulation in sleepwalkers. By employing targeted memory reactivation (TMR), the researchers will assess how specific auditory cues can trigger memory reactivation and observable behaviors in sleepwalkers. The study will quantify the differences in gestures performed during sleep compared to those performed while awake, providing insights into memory consolidation and reactivation during sleep. The ultimate goal is to enhance our understanding of the cognitive functions of sleep and the mechanisms behind sleepwalking.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 18-35 who experience sleepwalking.

Not a fit: Patients with psychiatric or neurological disorders, or other sleep disorders aside from sleepwalking, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and treatment of sleep-related disorders, particularly sleepwalking.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on memory reactivation during sleep, this specific approach using sleepwalkers is novel and has not been extensively tested.
