What this trial studies

This pilot study aims to evaluate the acute side effects and potential pain relief resulting from radiotherapy applied to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in patients with arthritis. Participants will complete a symptom-oriented questionnaire and use a numeric rating scale to assess their pain levels. The feasibility of the irradiation procedure will also be examined as part of the study's methodology.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with TMJ arthritis by a qualified oral and maxillofacial surgeon or dentist.

Not a fit: Patients who have previously received irradiation in the TMJ area or are under the age of 50 may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a new pain relief option for patients suffering from TMJ arthritis.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is relatively novel, similar studies exploring radiotherapy for joint conditions have shown promising results.
