What this trial studies
This is an observational study to design and validate a patient questionnaire that quantifies chronic cough severity. Researchers will recruit Spanish-speaking adults aged 30–99 with chronic cough and healthy volunteers at three hospitals in the Barcelona area. Participants will complete the new questionnaire and existing clinical measures, and the team will analyze reliability, consistency, and how well the questionnaire reflects clinical severity. The goal is to produce a validated Spanish tool that can be used in clinics and research.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Spanish-speaking adults aged 30–99 who have a clinical diagnosis of chronic cough or healthy volunteers able to complete questionnaires and give consent.
Not a fit: People who do not speak Spanish, cannot complete questionnaires, or do not consent (and those with only acute or short-term cough) are unlikely to benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the questionnaire could give clinicians and researchers a reliable, standard way to measure cough severity and track changes over time.
How similar studies have performed: Related patient-reported cough questionnaires exist and have been useful, but a validated Spanish tool specifically focused on objective cough severity is a newer effort.
