What this trial studies
This cross-sectional study (2025) will use convenience sampling to recruit residents from selected nursing homes and social protection centers in Hanoi. Eligible participants are aged 60 or older, have lived in the facility at least three months, can communicate verbally, have adequate cognition (MoCA ≥ 26), and provide written consent. Trained interviewers will conduct face-to-face structured interviews using validated instruments (WHOQOL-BREF, Barthel Index, MSPSS, MNA-SF, NRS, GDS-15). Data will be analyzed in SPSS v27 with descriptive statistics and inferential tests including t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlations, and multiple linear regression to identify factors associated with quality of life.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are residents aged 60 or older who have lived in one of the selected Hanoi nursing homes for at least three months, can communicate verbally, have adequate cognition (MoCA ≥ 26), and can give written consent.
Not a fit: People with significant cognitive impairment (MoCA < 26), those with acute medical conditions requiring emergency treatment or isolation, or residents who cannot communicate in Vietnamese are unlikely to benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the results could help nursing staff and policymakers improve care practices and resources to boost quality of life for older adults in Vietnamese long-term care facilities.
How similar studies have performed: Similar observational studies in other countries have repeatedly found links between functional independence, social support, and better quality of life for nursing home residents, though Vietnam-specific data are limited.
