What this trial studies
This intervention focuses on veterans diagnosed with PTSD, utilizing a psychoeducational approach to enhance self-regulatory mechanisms through a racecar simulated environment. Participants will undergo pre-test assessments and then engage in a tailored intervention that incorporates elements of stress-inoculation therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and psychological skills training. The study employs a single-case design with a range-bound changing criterion to systematically shape behaviors and improve performance. The goal is to translate improvements in the simulated environment to real-life scenarios.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are US military veterans who have a clinical diagnosis of PTSD and have completed the Veterans Trust Self-Regulatory Mastery course.
Not a fit: Patients with severe PTSD symptoms or significant comorbid conditions such as asthma or heart disease may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the coping mechanisms and overall quality of life for veterans suffering from PTSD.
How similar studies have performed: While this specific approach is novel, similar psychoeducational interventions have shown promise in improving outcomes for PTSD patients in other studies.
