What this trial studies

This study aims to address food insecurity among patients receiving allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, autologous stem cell transplant, and CAR-T cell therapy by providing food bags directly in the clinic. The intervention involves a partnership between cancer centers and food banks to deliver medically tailored food options to patients after their appointments, thereby reducing barriers to access. By focusing on patients who screen positive for food insecurity, the study seeks to improve nutrition, lower healthcare costs, and enhance treatment outcomes. The approach is designed to be discreet and convenient, minimizing stigma and additional trips for patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients aged 8 to 80 who are planning to receive transplant or cell therapy and screen positive for food insecurity.

Not a fit: Patients who do not tolerate oral nutrition at the time of study enrollment may not benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the nutritional status and treatment outcomes for patients facing food insecurity.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown that addressing food insecurity can lead to improved health outcomes, suggesting that this approach may be effective.
