What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates whether propolis administration can alter Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Participants will receive either propolis or a placebo twice daily for eight weeks, with regular check-ups and blood tests to monitor changes in cholesterol levels. The study employs a randomized, double-blind design to ensure unbiased results. Data collected will include participants' medical history, dietary intake, and physical activity levels.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults with controlled type 2 diabetes, a BMI between 23-35, and currently on anti-cholesterol therapy.

Not a fit: Patients using insulin or GLP-1 receptor agonists, those with a history of bee product allergies, or individuals with significant liver or kidney dysfunction may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a natural treatment option to improve cholesterol levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of propolis in managing cholesterol levels is not widely studied, similar natural interventions have shown promise in other contexts, suggesting potential for success.
