What this trial studies

This project aims to develop and test a theory-based behavioral intervention designed to increase physical activity levels among low-active parents and their children aged 8 to 12 years. The intervention will utilize an integrated model based on behavioral theories, particularly self-determination theory and the theory of planned behavior, to guide its development. Participants will be randomly assigned to either an intervention group or a waitlist control group, allowing for a systematic evaluation of the intervention's efficacy. The focus is on addressing the lack of family-based interventions that are grounded in behavioral theory and target low-active families.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are parents who do not meet the recommended physical activity guidelines and have children aged 8 to 12 who also do not meet activity levels.

Not a fit: Patients who are already meeting physical activity guidelines or have physical conditions that prevent safe participation will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve physical activity levels and overall health outcomes for both parents and children.

How similar studies have performed: While family-based interventions for promoting physical activity are limited, this approach is novel in its strong theoretical foundation and focus on low-active families.
