What this trial studies
This project evaluates the effectiveness of the HEALTH-P2 intervention aimed at preventing excessive weight gain during pregnancy and up to 12 months postpartum. The intervention will be implemented through the Parents as Teachers (PAT) program, which trains parent educators to deliver the program in real-world settings. The study will assess weight outcomes among overweight or obese women and evaluate the implementation of the intervention across PAT's national network. By addressing the challenges of weight management during the childbearing years, this study seeks to promote healthier lifestyles and reduce obesity-related health risks.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are women aged 18-45 who are pregnant, overweight or obese, and willing to participate in the Parents as Teachers program.
Not a fit: Patients who are planning to become pregnant again before their baby turns one or those unable to engage in a walking program may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could help women manage their weight effectively during and after pregnancy, reducing the risk of obesity and related chronic diseases.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar lifestyle interventions aimed at managing weight during pregnancy, indicating potential for this approach.
