What this trial studies
This feasibility study aims to enhance nutrition and physical activity among individuals with type 2 diabetes by leveraging family units as support systems. Participants will share their access to food sources and community resources for physical activity, which will inform the development of a tailored nutrition and physical activity plan for them and their families over a six-month period. The study seeks to understand how family dynamics influence the health of those living with type 2 diabetes in rural Kentucky, where obesity and related health issues are prevalent.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes who reside in rural Kentucky and have lived there for at least one year.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have type 2 diabetes or those who cannot provide consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved health outcomes for individuals with type 2 diabetes by fostering healthier lifestyle choices within family units.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies focusing on family-based interventions for diabetes management, this specific approach targeting rural populations is relatively novel.
