What this trial studies
This trial aims to increase face-to-face interactions among children aged 9-11 by reducing their recreational screen media use after school and on weekends. It employs a cluster-randomized controlled design, where schools and afterschool clubs will be randomly assigned to either an intervention group or a control group. The study will measure changes in children's time spent with peers, screen media use, physical activity, wellbeing, and other related factors. The intervention is based on previous feasibility trials that assessed the practicality of the approach and participant engagement.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 9-11 years who attend schools with afterschool or youth clubs within walking distance.
Not a fit: Children who do not have access to afterschool or youth clubs may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance children's social skills and overall wellbeing by fostering more in-person interactions.
How similar studies have performed: Similar studies have shown promising results in promoting social interactions and reducing screen time among children, indicating that this approach has potential.
