What this trial studies
This project aims to integrate a psychosocial approach into a therapeutic patient education program at Poitiers University Hospital to address the negative effects of obesity stigma. It involves a randomized study where patients will participate in obesity-specific physical activity workshops and social well-being workshops over 12 months. Participants will be assessed at multiple time points to evaluate the impact of these interventions on their psychological and social well-being. The study seeks to improve self-efficacy and quality of life for severely obese patients by targeting the detrimental effects of obesity stereotypes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are severely obese patients with a BMI greater than 30 who are affiliated with a social security scheme.
Not a fit: Patients with uncontrolled psychiatric illnesses that are not adequately treated may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly enhance the psychological well-being and quality of life for patients struggling with obesity stigma.
How similar studies have performed: While psychotherapeutic support and adapted physical activities for obese patients are well-documented, this specific intervention targeting obesity stereotype threat is novel and has not been previously tested.
