What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates a structured program designed to enhance compliance during ophthalmic examinations for children and adolescents with special needs. The program includes six individualized training sessions led by occupational therapists, focusing on contextual, behavioral, and cognitive strategies to improve cooperation. Participants will engage in activities that simulate clinic environments and utilize positive reinforcement techniques. Assessments will be conducted before and after the program to measure improvements in visual function and behavioral adaptation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children and adolescents aged 2 to 18 years with autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, or intellectual disabilities who struggle with ophthalmic examination compliance.
Not a fit: Patients who can already cooperate during routine vision screenings or ophthalmologic visits may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve the ability of children with special needs to undergo necessary eye examinations, leading to better visual health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, this specific program's structured combination of strategies is novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
