What this trial studies
This intervention aims to enhance parents' ability to instruct their teen drivers on hazard anticipation skills during the learner phase of licensure. The study involves 100 parent-teen dyads, with half receiving a web-based training program designed to improve communication about roadway hazards. Both groups will participate in recorded driving sessions, including real-world drives and a driving simulator that presents various hazards. The goal is to compare the effectiveness of the intervention on driving instruction and teen driving outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are parents of adolescents aged 14 to 17 who are in the learner phase of driving.
Not a fit: Patients who are not actively involved in teaching a teen to drive or whose teens are not in the learner phase may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve teen drivers' hazard recognition and response, potentially reducing motor vehicle accidents.
How similar studies have performed: While similar programs have been explored, this specific approach focusing on parent-teen dyads and hazard anticipation is relatively novel.
