What this trial studies

Eating Better Together is a 6-month pilot program aimed at addressing childhood obesity in low-income families by teaching healthy eating habits and providing home deliveries of fresh fruits and vegetables. The program is based on the Prevention Plus model, which focuses on reducing sugar-sweetened beverage intake, increasing physical activity, and minimizing screen time through a family-centered approach. Monthly contacts alternate between in-person sessions and phone calls to accommodate families' schedules, and the intervention has shown effectiveness in reducing child standardized BMI (ZBMI). The program targets children aged 4 to 10 years with a BMI above the 85th percentile and involves adult caregivers in the process.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this program are children aged 4 to 10 years with a BMI above the 85th percentile, living in low-income households, and having an adult caregiver willing to participate.

Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this program include those with a BMI at or below the 85th percentile or those without an adult caregiver who can participate.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve dietary habits and reduce obesity rates among children from low-income households.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar interventions targeting childhood obesity through community-based approaches, indicating potential for positive outcomes.
