What this trial studies
This observational program uses community resource spots and emergency departments to connect underserved adults with screening and to coordinate referrals for diagnostic follow-up. It applies the RE-AIM implementation framework to measure reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance of the outreach and engagement activities. Eligible participants who meet age and risk criteria and receive a positive screening result are referred for definitive diagnosis and linked with engagement/navigation services. The work is led by AdventHealth in Orlando with collaboration from the Florida Department of Health.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults 18+ seeking care at participating community resource spots or the emergency department who meet screening age/risk criteria (women 40–74 for breast, adults 50–80 with a 20+ pack-year smoking history for lung, men 55–69 for prostate) and have a positive screening result at a study site.
Not a fit: Patients who do not meet the screening criteria, refuse screening, or whose behavior is disruptive and prevents participation would not be eligible and are unlikely to benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could increase early detection and timely follow-up care for underserved adults with screening-detected lung, breast, or prostate cancers.
How similar studies have performed: Similar community outreach and patient navigation programs have previously improved screening uptake and diagnostic follow-up, so this approach builds on established methods rather than being entirely novel.
