What this trial studies
This clinical trial tests an adapted couple-based intervention called Healthy Family Foundations (HFF) aimed at reducing obesity risk among infants and parents in military families. The intervention includes 10 online group classes focused on improving interparental support and coordination around healthy lifestyle behaviors and parenting. Participants will be randomized into either the HFF intervention group or a standard care control group, with outcomes measured in terms of infant weight status and parental weight retention. The study aims to assess the efficacy of this innovative approach in fostering healthier weight outcomes for both parents and their children.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are two-parent military families expecting their first child, with at least one active-duty parent.
Not a fit: Patients with active diagnoses of severe health conditions or those expecting multiple children may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce obesity risk among infants and help parents maintain healthier weight post-pregnancy.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promise in couple-based interventions for health behavior changes, suggesting potential success for this approach.
