What this trial studies

This observational study will enroll at least 159 adults aged 65 and over and collect information via face-to-face interviews at Pamukkale University. Investigators will record demographics and measure cognition (Hodkinson Mental Test), climate change health literacy (Climate Change Health Literacy Scale), climate-related anxiety (Climate Change Anxiety Scale), physical activity (Rapid Assessment of Physical Activity), dyspnea (Modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale), and mental fatigue (Mental Fatigue Scale). Each assessment is brief (about 15–20 minutes) and requires a Hodkinson score of 6 or higher for participation. People with dementia, psychosis, significant neurological or orthopedic disabilities, blindness, or chronic painful illnesses are excluded from the study.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Community-dwelling adults aged 65 or older who can consent, score 6 or higher on the Hodkinson Mental Test, and can attend a face-to-face interview at Pamukkale University are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Individuals with dementia, psychosis, severe cognitive impairment, blindness, major neurological or orthopedic disabilities, or chronic painful illnesses are excluded and would not benefit from participating.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this could help identify older adults who need targeted education or support to reduce climate-related health risks.

How similar studies have performed: Related observational studies have linked cognitive and functional factors to general health literacy, but climate change–specific health literacy in older adults is a relatively new area with limited prior results.
