Predicting response to chemoradiotherapy in esophageal cancer
Prediction Model of Response for Combined Chemo-Radio-therapy Based on Clinical and Molecular Biology
This study is trying to find out if certain blood and tissue tests can help predict how well patients with advanced esophageal cancer will respond to a combination of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

What this trial studies
This study aims to develop a prediction model for how patients with locally advanced and advanced esophageal cancer respond to concomitant chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). It involves a retrospective review of patient data from 2005 to 2015, as well as a prospective case-control study that includes RNA sequencing and miRNA microarray analysis. The study will collect tissue and blood samples from naive patients planning to undergo CCRT, and analyze various molecular and clinical factors to identify predictors of treatment response. Follow-up assessments will also be conducted to monitor circulating miRNA levels over time.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with locally advanced or advanced esophageal cancer who are planning to receive concomitant chemoradiotherapy.
Not a fit: Patients with other organ cancers or those who do not provide informed consent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help tailor treatment plans for esophageal cancer patients, improving their chances of achieving a positive response to therapy.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies focusing on treatment response in esophageal cancer, this specific approach utilizing RNA sequencing and miRNA analysis is relatively novel.
