Predicting mortality and disability in elderly ICU patients
Development and Validation of Multi-Biomarkers Prognostic Models for Mortality and Functional Disability in Critically-ill Elderly Patients
This study is trying to create a tool that helps doctors predict how likely it is for older patients in the ICU to survive and how well they will recover afterward.

What this trial studies
This prospective observational study aims to develop and validate a prognostic predictive model for mortality in critically ill elderly patients aged 60 and above admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The study will utilize a multi-biomarker approach to assess various domains that may influence patient outcomes during their ICU stay and after discharge. By employing a nonrandom split-sample design, the research will analyze data from multiple hospitals to enhance the accuracy of mortality predictions and functional disability assessments in survivors.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are elderly patients aged 60 years and above who are admitted to the ICU.
Not a fit: Patients who are readmitted to the ICU within the same hospital admission will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prognostic tools that help healthcare providers better manage and support elderly patients in critical care settings.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored mortality prediction in ICU settings, this specific multi-biomarker approach in elderly patients is relatively novel.
