Predicting heart disease in patients with chronic kidney disease in Poland

Cardiovascular Disease in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease: Polish Kidney- Heart Project

Medical University of Silesia · NCT06083168

What this trial studies

This observational longitudinal study aims to collect demographic, laboratory, and clinical data from patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Poland to predict the onset of cardiovascular disease and related events. The study will utilize machine learning and artificial intelligence to analyze the data collected from two academic centers over a period of 10 years. Patients will receive annual follow-ups via telephone and on-site health checks to monitor their health outcomes, including cardiovascular events and progression of kidney disease. A subgroup analysis will focus on patients with diabetes and CKD.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, characterized by an eGFR of less than 60 ml/min/1.73 m2 or elevated urine albumin creatinine ratio.

Not a fit: Patients who are terminally ill with cancer or unable to provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prediction and management of cardiovascular risks in patients with chronic kidney disease.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using machine learning approaches to predict cardiovascular events in patients with chronic kidney disease, making this approach promising.
