What this trial studies
This study focuses on the role of precision nutrition in managing blood glucose levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a plant-based diet or a conventional diabetic diet, with standardized meals provided throughout the intervention. The study will also explore the impact of gut microbiota on glycemic responses through individual N-of-1 trials comparing different types of bread. Participants will track their dietary intake and undergo follow-up assessments over a period of up to one month, with additional follow-ups every 1-2 years.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes who have lived in Hangzhou for at least five years.
Not a fit: Patients with serious complications from type 2 diabetes, such as renal failure, or those who are already following a vegetarian diet may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more effective dietary interventions tailored to individual needs, improving blood glucose management in patients with type 2 diabetes.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated that dietary interventions can significantly impact glycemic responses, suggesting potential success for this novel approach.
