What this trial studies

This longitudinal, naturalistic study implements a Routine Outcome Monitoring system across several psychological care centers in Ecuador to systematically track client progress during usual psychotherapy. Clients aged 11 and older will complete brief well-being and distress questionnaires before sessions throughout treatment, while therapists complete intake and end-of-treatment questionnaires and centers provide service-level data. Data will be analyzed to describe typical change trajectories in distress and to identify client-, therapist-, and service-level factors associated with outcomes. The study is conducted within existing clinical settings so findings reflect real-world practice without altering standard care.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adolescents (11+) and adults who can communicate in Spanish and are starting psychotherapy at one of the participating Ecuadorian clinics are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients with substantial cognitive deficits that prevent completing the questionnaires or those not receiving treatment at participating centers are unlikely to benefit from this project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this could help clinicians identify clients who are not improving and adjust care sooner, potentially improving outcomes across participating mental health services.

How similar studies have performed: Routine outcome monitoring and practice-based evidence programs in other countries have shown promise for tracking progress and sometimes improving outcomes, though effects depend on local implementation.
