What this trial studies
This randomized controlled experimental project tests a structured post-disaster care protocol delivered to pregnant women after an earthquake, with participants randomized to receive the protocol or usual care. The protocol emphasizes mental health support, family/spousal involvement, spiritual care, and improved access to routine health services. Participants were screened for eligibility using tools including the HSA-9 to exclude severe depression and those with high-risk pregnancies or chronic conditions. Outcomes include measures of physical health, psychological symptoms (fear, sleep disturbance, depression, trauma), and access to care.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adult pregnant women (age ≥18) who read and speak Turkish, have no severe depression or diagnosed mental disorder, have no chronic disease or high-risk pregnancy requiring hospitalization, and are willing to participate—particularly those in the Hatay region.
Not a fit: Women under 18, non-Turkish speakers, those with severe depression (HSA-9 score 20–27), diagnosed mental disorders, or high-risk pregnancies requiring hospitalization are unlikely to benefit from this protocol.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the protocol could reduce pregnancy-related trauma and depression and improve access to health services for earthquake-affected pregnant women.
How similar studies have performed: Previous research shows psychosocial and family support can benefit pregnant women after disasters, but randomized trials of comprehensive post-disaster care protocols are still limited.
