Portable endoscopic camera for nasal examination
Portable Endoscopic Camera System Using Modified Action Camera for Endoscopic Sinunasal Examination
This project will test whether a small, portable endoscopic camera provides images as clear as the standard tower-mounted camera for adults getting nasal endoscopy for tearing or sinus problems.

What this trial studies
This observational study compares images from the conventional tower-mounted endoscopic camera and a modified compact camera during routine nasal endoscopy in adults with epiphora or sinonasal disease. The same endoscope and identical clinical steps are used for both consecutive exams, with the compact camera attached at the usual hand-position point. The primary outcome is a head-to-head comparison of image quality, and secondary outcomes include device usability, handling characteristics, and feasibility of integrating the device into clinic workflow; the second exam adds about 3–5 minutes. The work is conducted as a single-site evaluation at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (18+) who require a clinician-ordered nasal endoscopic exam for tearing suggestive of nasolacrimal drainage obstruction or for sinunasal disease are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Children under 18, patients with over-secretory tearing excluded by the protocol, and people who do not require nasal endoscopy would not be appropriate candidates and are unlikely to benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, patients could benefit from more portable, space-saving equipment that broadens access to nasal endoscopy and may allow quicker or more flexible exams.
How similar studies have performed: Previous small studies and smartphone-adapter approaches for endoscopy have shown promising image quality, but this specific modified action-camera configuration is relatively novel.
