What this trial studies

The team will measure airborne formaldehyde levels and urinary formic acid in staff, then install 15 plants in the two rooms with highest exposure (the macroscopy room and the reception room). After two months with the plants in place, the investigators will repeat atmospheric and biological measurements to compare exposures before and after installation. Eligible participants are adult employees of the Pathological Anatomy and Cytology Department who are not pregnant and are able to give non-opposition consent. The intervention is low-risk and performed on site at the CHRU Amiens.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adult staff who work in the Pathological Anatomy and Cytology Department at CHRU Amiens, are over 18, not pregnant, and able to provide non-opposition, are the ideal participants.

Not a fit: People who do not work in the department, pregnant employees, or staff under legal guardianship are not eligible and would not be expected to benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lower staff formaldehyde exposure and reduce related health risks in the department.

How similar studies have performed: Some laboratory and indoor-air studies have shown certain plants can absorb formaldehyde, but evidence of meaningful workplace exposure reduction is limited.
