What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the role of breathing tests in early diagnosing Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) among individuals who have undergone a CT scan as part of the Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) in Nottingham. Participants, aged 55 to 74 years with a significant smoking history, will be invited for lung health assessments two to three weeks after their CT scans. The study seeks to identify those at risk for COPD and provide early intervention options, including smoking cessation and symptom management. The research will utilize a mobile unit to facilitate participant engagement and data collection.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are current or ex-smokers aged 55 to 74 years with a significant smoking history who are at high risk for COPD.
Not a fit: Patients currently undergoing active investigation or treatment for cancer will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier diagnosis and management of COPD, potentially improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
