Physiological and psychological profiles linked to sports injuries in female rugby and basketball players
Physiological and Psychological Profiles of the Athletic Women and the Risk of Sport Injuries in Saudi Arabia
This project will see if physical fitness measures (like muscle strength and oxygen use) and mental factors (like self-confidence and resilience) predict sports injuries in female rugby and basketball players aged 18–35 in Saudi Arabia.

What this trial studies
This prospective cross-sectional project will enroll 30 female rugby and basketball athletes aged 18–35 and collect performance tests at a lifestyle research center in Riyadh. Physical measures will include muscle strength, anaerobic power, and oxygen consumption, while psychological measures will include self-efficacy and resilience. Researchers will relate these physiological and psychological profiles to participants' injury histories to identify predictive patterns. The intent is to generate data that could inform targeted prevention strategies for sports-related injuries among female athletes in Saudi Arabia.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are female rugby or basketball players in Saudi Arabia aged 18–35 who have at least one year of sport experience and regularly train and compete.
Not a fit: Individuals with recent injuries that limit performance, pregnancy, uncontrolled chronic conditions (such as diabetes or hypertension), or non-athletes are unlikely to benefit from the study's findings.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help identify athletes at higher risk and guide targeted training and prevention to reduce injuries and long-term health consequences.
How similar studies have performed: Previous observational research has linked fitness and psychological factors to injury risk in athletes, but predictive data specific to female rugby and basketball players in Saudi Arabia are limited.
